Never ever thought tornado is going to happen in an urban area! Especially somewhere near by! Kings Heath, Moseley (south of Birmingham) are the area that hit the worst by the tornado. They are not far from Erdington. I am so glad and thankful that it wasn't Erdington that been affected.
'There was a little bit of thunder and then some lightning. The winds started to pick up and then tiles began to fly off roofs and smash into windows. Huge trees have been uprooted and complete roofs have been ripped off houses. Smashed cars, uprooted trees and lampposts are lying all over...' These are the description from those who saw the tornado coming.
It happened around 2.30 this afternoon. I was at home on the phone to HC when it happened. It already rained for the whole morning. Suddenly, the sky got really dark. There were a couple of really loud thunder claps and bright lightning strikes and then the wind picked up. I didn't think any further, only thought that was a very heavy thunderstorm. I was telling HC,'The rain got really heavy.' He said,'Then just stay at home, don't go out in the rain.'
I only realised it was actually a tornado when my area office rang me to ask me to go in for work in the evening as the locum's car had been hit by the tornado and he can't make it to work. Even though the tornado only lasted for a short while, a lot of damages have been done.
Natural disaster, suicide bombers... what's next?
