Blog EntryMy trip to Bath, UK 24/07/05Jul 26, '05 9:32 AM
for everyone

It was drizzling when I woke up in the morning. I was thinking,'hmm... why did we choose today to go out for the trip? The weather had been nice for the past 2 weeks, sunny and warm, then it just changed suddenly today... what a luck?!'

I had to catch an early train from Erdington to Birmingham City Centre, then to Bristol Mead Temple and finally to Bath Spa. The whole journey took about 2.5 hours. Sound like a long journey but it wasn't as bad when you are on the train. Jason rang me on my way to catch the train,'are you awake yet?' 'I'm on my way to the train station.':) He had to catch the train from London, different direction but similar duration. Wonder if he was thinking about the suicide bombers when he was on the train?

Met up with Henry when i was waiting for the train from Bristol Mead Temple to Bath Spa. Haven't seen him for more than 1 year! It's really good to see a familiar face from Perth! :) We reached Bath Spa at around 12.30pm. Since this is only a day-out, we only had half a day to explore the whole town!

Roman Baths was our first destination. A Roman religious spa from ancient world! It was built over 2000 years ago around a natural hot spring. The hot spring still yields 250,000 gallons of water each day and rises to 46'C! It's very fascinating to see the interesting architecture of the buildings, temple, baths etc. Worship and sacrifice ceremonies also took place here.

The whole town of Bath is like a little Roman ancient city. All the buildings were built during those time when Romans came over to the UK, maybe as far as 1st century AD. The buildings, either residential or commercial are all built in classical Celtic, Georgian, Gothic architecture, adorned with stone carvings and unique columns. Breathtaking! They are also very well-preserved.

Bath is only a small town. We managed to 'walk' around all the 'places of interest' included in the tourist information map during the few hours. Roman Baths, Pump Room, The Circus, Bath Abbey, Museums etc. The rain stopped when we reached there, :) we were actually quite lucky! Although we don't have enough time to visit each place in depth, it's still a very nice day out.

Bath is a beautiful nice little town!
