I stayed in this B&B for 4 weeks at Walsall (oh, it was extended to 5 weeks before I managed to find a place to stay). Since it is called B&B, it includes Bed and Breakfast. I checked out the price for this '3 stars' B&B, Wow!  It's not cheap, it costs 45 Sterling Pound (RM 315 or AUD115) per day.

What!? My 4 weeks stay here is going to cost more than 1,260 Sterling Pound (>RM 8,800 or >AUD3,200)?! Why don't they just give me the money?? Then I can find a better accommodation for myself!!

Anyway, since the company has paid for it, I could only 'enjoy' the best out of it! The hotel (ok, I am a bit confused myself, it is called Abberly Hotel, but it is B&B, so sometimes I called it hotel and another time I called it B&B, please bare with me) provides the room service everyday, change the towels, top up tea/coffee supply, however, they do not change the bed liners everyday, they only change the bed liners every Friday!

The breakfast is served from 6am-9am. They don't really have a cook/chief. The staffs in the hotel are doing everything; they are the cook, the receptionist, the cleaner etc etc. There are 3 full-time staffs that I see regularly. And there are also 2-3 part-time staffs that come in the morning to do the cleaning and room service.

The breakfast is Full English Breakfast or also traditionally known as fry-up. It is commonly eaten in a leisurely fashion on Saturday or Sunday mornings in an English family.

The ingredients of a fry-up vary according to region and taste, and it is not entirely unique to England; Scottish, Welsh and Irish share some common characteristics and ingredients. A Full English Breakfast includes:

  • Fried/grilled bacon
  • Fried/poached/scrambled eggs
  • pork sausages
  • black pudding
  • fried or grilled tomatoes
  • mushrooms
  • fried bread
  • baked beans
  • kidneys
  • sauté potatoes, chips, hash browns or bubble and squeak
  • condiments such as ketchup and brown sauce
  • bread/toast and butter on the side.

The fry-up provided by Abberly Hotel does not have the full list as above. But it still consists of all the main ingredients – bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, bake beans, mushrooms, hash browns and toasts. There are also cereals, orange juice, milk, tea and coffee provided.

Since the breakfast come with the package of my stay. The breakfast has been the best meal of the day for my first month in the UK. Because I was staying in the B&B which does not allow me to cook or to prepare my meal, I struggled to come out with what to eat for the next meal. Lunch is at work, so it is normally a sandwich.  Dinner is either take-away or bread or sandwich or anything I can put into my mouth! So it is not always hot.

Therefore, breakfast has been my main meal to provide all my necessary nutrients. I make sure I do not skip my breakfast and finish everything. Being 'reasonably' oily and fatty (very very oily and fatty), I am sure you can imagine my feeling toward English Breakfast after 5 weeks of Full English Breakfast every morning!
